The Church Minshull Community Website

On the fourth day of Christmas my true love gave to me.... four calling birds.
So what exactly is a 'calling bird'? In the Nineteenth Century, 'calling birds' were used to describe canary birds, mocking birds and also collie birds — an old name for blackbirds.
So, will we see any real birds in this floral display? We will have to wait to see what the award-winning Reaseheath College Floristry Department led by Sue Poole has in store for us. They promise us a floral delight. We'll just have to remember to keep the church windows closed in case the display attracts any curious birds from outside!
With thanks to Church Minshull Parish Council for sponsoring this arrangement.
