A pleasant June evening found members enjoying 'acapella' music.
A group of four Ladies; Sue, Irene, Nova and Lynette; sang some well known songs, in pure barber-shop style .
The began with 'All my loving', a Beatles number, moved on to a Brian Wilson hit 'In my room', written whilst the composer was suffering from serious depression. Light and easy followed as members heard the Ladies rendition of 'Jeepers Creepers' followed by 'Sixteen Tons' with a slight change of words to sixteen pounds and a little bit fatter and deeper in debt to the grocery store.
Oh! Yes, we all know the damage chocolate cake and biscuits can do! Their repertoire included songs from the 1960/1970 era and right through to a recent song from a George Clooney film.
Members were given the history of barber-shop music during the course of the evening. Barbara Mason gave the well deserved vote of thanks on behalf of all present.
Brenda Farrall gave details of the next WI Walk starting and finishing at the Legs of Man Inn at Arclid. Brenda also reported that the Bowls Team had won a recent match and the team looked forward with confidence to the next game.
