What a party...the village hall was transported back to 8th May 1945, last Saturday evening, when the 70th anniversary of VE Day was celebrated by 75 attendees, in good style..!
The union flag was flying from all corners of the room and everyone was dancing as Lucy Barlow sang her heart out, in two 45 min sets.
The event, sponsored by Cheshire East council, started off with the 'all clear' siren, then loose leaf tea (in vintage pots and cups), sandwiches (with the crust cut off...very posh), cake , jelly and 'Minshull' biscuits were served to a very appreciative audience.
The hall was set up as a 1945 street party and various speeches were made, starting with Shaun Davies, who delivered the Kind George VI, VE Day speech.
Kev Penny read an extract from Tom Rolt's book – Narrowboat, about village life in Church Minshull in 1945 and Dave Barrett recited Churchill's 'victory speech to the people' .
There was also a quiz for both adults and kids and a raffle (which included SPAM, as a prize!), whilst a VE Day video played...
A great effort by the organisers and a great turn out of the community...
Lots more photos on the gallery...
